A collection of basic ingredients for perfume making.

Ingredients:

  • 30mL Galaxolide
  • 100mL Diethyl Phthalate (DEP)
  • 100mL Dipropylene Glycol (DPG)
  • 30mL ISO E Super
  • 30mL Hedione
  • 10g Ambroxan

 

Galaxolide is a synthetic musk, a commonly used fragrance ingredient found in household products. It is widely used by cleaning and personal care product companies and can be found in many products including surface cleaners, laundry products, air fresheners, cosmetics and perfumes. It is a popular fixative in perfumery.

Diethyl Phthalate is known as the "good phthalate" and is commonly referred to as "DEP". It is used extensively in the fragrance industry as a fragrance solvent, blender, surfactant and as a fixative to help make fragrances last longer.

Dipropylene glycol or DPG is a type of organic chemical compound that's used as the solvent in most fragrances. When DPG is added to one of the carrier oils, it dilutes the strength of fragrance oils to slowly disperse the smell.

A synthetic aromatic chemical, Iso E Super is one of the most versatile odor molecules ever and it is used in almost every fragrance today. It’s a fragrance booster, helps improve longevity, and brings out clarity of notes and makes them smell more of itself; perhaps even hyperreal. The odor molecule provides a sandalwood-like and cedarwood-like notes to various medium such as perfumes and functional products. smooth, woody, amber with unique aspects giving a ‘’velvet’’ like sensation. Used to impart fullness and subtle strength to fragrances. Iso E Super falls under the olfactory groups such as musk, amber, animalic.

Hedione is a fragrance ingredient used as a fixative. It has a jasmine accord with citrus freshness and is virtually used in all floral perfumes. Suggested concentration is between 2 -15% and can also go up to 35% in formulation of perfumes.

Widely used as a base note owing to its musky, velvety fragrance, Ambroxan is a synthetic compound with strong salty accents. Hints of sweet woodiness can also be pinpointed by a fragrance cognoscenti - think wet, crystalline stones near the ocean.
